The Inside Track - June 2016

July 2016
Issue No. 12

From Our President
What an amazing school year it has been, thanks to all the volunteers, parents, school teachers, and principals for their continued support of the iRun4Life running program.

Atlantic City Charter School and St. Jude Catholic School are the newest schools to join iRun4Life.   We now have 29 schools in 11 different school districts with over 3000 children participating in the iRun4Life running program.
This past school year the children ran 21664 miles and recorded 11428 good deeds.  To date, the children in the iRun4Life running programs have logged over 312,897 miles.
Our 7th Annual iRun4Life Kids Only 3K held on May 15, 2016 had over 850 runners.

We are always looking for volunteers year round, as well as, new board members.  Help us make a difference, even parents with minimal extra time can be an asset to our team.

Gotta Run,

Gert Freas
2016 iRun4Life Kids Only 3k
On May 15, 2016 we had another amazing day at Doylestown Central Park.  Our 7th Annual iRun4Life Kids Only 3k had over 850 boys and girls ages Kindergarten through and including 6th grade running their hearts out to finish strong.

Special thanks to all the volunteers who donated their time at packet pick-up and race day.  We were lucky to have a number of community groups volunteer together including, CB West & South honor societies, CB West Key Club, CB West Track Team, CB East Softball Team.  Leading the runners was Dr. K.C. Wilder who is a Human Performance Coach and Sports Psychologist and was an All-American athlete at the University of Virginia, former professional cyclist, and two-time Master's National Cycling Champion." The CB East Softball team were our course sweepers and the CB West girls track team manned the water station.

School Updates
Atlantic Community Charter School  -This is the newest school to join the iRun4Life organization.  The students and parents have been actively participating and have been running on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.  Overall it has been a success.  On June 15 we will hold a school-wide run, where the entire school will come to the Boardwalk to cheer our runners on for one last run before the school year comes to a close!

Bridge Valley - What a fun and fast 7 weeks the students had building endurance in running and doing good deeds. Not only did many Bridge Valley students participate in the Irun4life Kids Only 3k but they also donated over 150 items to the Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter as a way to promote good deeds in our community.

Titus Elementary - Runners from Titus iRun4Life created a service project for their good deeds to support the Make a Difference Children Foundation (MADCF).  Read more to learn about the impact their efforts made.  They also had some fun by holding a color run for the 2nd year in a row.

Warwick Elementary - Warwick Elementary school also hosted a color run this year.  As a change of pace, Zumba instructor Richarda from Cornerstone Health and Fitness lead the runners in an energetic indoor workout on a day when they were unable to run outside.

Central Bucks Family YMCA
Kids Triathlon
The 8th Annual Kids Triathlon at Central Bucks Family YMCA will be held on Sunday, August 7. Youth age 3 - 14 from across the county are invited to register for the "compete to complete" race. The race will consist of three events - swimming, biking and running - and will provide hundreds of area children the opportunity to compete and have fun with friends. The event is organized by staff and volunteers of Central Bucks Family YMCA and all proceeds from the triathlon will benefit the Y's Annual Campaign, which ensures that individuals, youth and families can participate in Y programs regardless of their ability to pay.  Children of all skill levels will complete in one of these categories: 6-7 year olds, 8-9 year olds, 10-11 year olds, 12-14 year olds or 3-5 year olds (WeeBees) who compete accompanied by a parent or guardian. All racers receive a finisher award.  Click here for more information.
