iRun4Life, Inc. is a nonprofit organization established in 2008 with a mission to help combat childhood obesity by establishing fun, noncompetitive after school elementary school running programs for boys and girls. Our focus is to teach children about exercise, healthy nutrition and giving back to the community. We believe that if children learn to love exercise at an early age and realize how fun it is to feel healthy and strong, then they will maintain an active and healthy lifestyle throughout their lives. Running activities will also give them confidence and positive self-esteem which will carry over into their school work and daily lives. Not only will the children be healthier and stronger each week of training, but they will learn about endurance and resilience. They will learn that being the fastest and winning is secondary to learning patience and building character by supporting their fellow runners. They will be encouraged to try new fruits and vegetables and learn the importance of hydration and healthy eating habits. They will also gain a strong sense of giving back and helping their community by doing 26 good deeds by the end of their running program.
iRun4Life is the proud recipient of the Saucony Run For Good Grant and the New York Road Runners Grant in 2012, and the Road Runners Club of America 2018 Kids Run the Nation Grant.
iRun4Life's goal is to continue to expand our running program into new schools in Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, and other states to help improve the lives of elementary school children through running, healthy nutrition and doing good deeds!
The iRun4Life Running Program was started in four elementary schools in 2008 in Central Bucks County, and is now in 27 elementary schools in 10 school districts in PA and NJ with over 3,000 children participating. We are always looking to expand into other elementary schools and share our love of running. The iRun4Life running club is an inclusive activity and is organized and directed entirely by parent and teacher volunteers, and is offered to elementary school boys and girls at minimal cost.
Each iRun4Life School Director has access to online training materials containing all the information needed to organize a fun and successful running program. The iRun4Life website allows parents and children to track the children's mileage and good deeds through our new online database. It also allows each child to log their miles run and good deeds accomplished independently, so that each School Director can view the total miles run each week by team, grade and grand total by school.
All iRun4Life School Directors have direct access to iRun4Life Board Members and trainers to answer questions, or to be guest speakers at their school. Each School Director also becomes part of an amazing network of School Directors who share creative and successful training and program ideas through email groups and FaceBook.
In addition to our running program, iRun4Life also holds its own Kids Only 3K Race in May which is the only "kids only" race in central Bucks County Pennsylvania. We encourage iRun4Life runners to use this race as their personal goal race to complete their running journey. This is a unique opportunity for the children to experience the excitement of a real race environment complete with chip timing, bib numbers, a water station, raffles, music and awards! The race is also open to the public—all elementary school children are welcome to join us and run for fun!
